Historic Trails

Many trails were developed linking the various posts and settlements. Prior to the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1883, most supplies were brought up the Missouri River to Fort Benton, Montana. From there, trails went to Fort Whoop-Up, near present-day Lethbridge, and to Fort Walsh. This north-south trading is described by the Old Forts Trail.

Historic Cemeteries

Cemeteries are one of the most enduring artifacts of our earliest communities, and are valuable reminders of days gone by. Many of the cemeteries near the Cypress Hills in Alberta have been located, documented and restored. A summary of the information is presented here. If you choose to visit these sites, please show respect both to the cemetery and to the adjacent landowners.
