FRENCHMAN RIVER
BIODIVERSITY PROJECT

Last modified March 15, 2006

The Frenchman River Biodiversity Project (FRBP) is a multi-year, community-driven research project developed by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Nature and a host of Saskatchewan-based partners.

The aim of the FRBP is to assess the health of the Frenchman River and the sustainability of local activities by comparing the water chemistry and aquatic biodiversity associated with a range of land uses and management practices, by working with local individuals and groups to assess and build on existing knowledge, by conducting workshops and other activities that address needs identified by local communities, and by distributing information to all stakeholders through various types of media.

The Frenchman River is a critical wildlife corridor, connecting the Cypress Hills of Palliser's Country with the extensive native prairie of Grasslands National Park and the Bitter Creek region of Montana.

The Spring 2004 issue of the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority's Prairie Update describes how the project benefits from the input of long-time area residents.
