I am having troubles with my mail?

How do I get my EIDNet email?

Once your email account has been created, you can log in to the Webmail console from anywhere with an internet connection or you can set up a POP account on your PC with a program such as Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc.. Please note that only the Webmail console shows you absolutely all of your messages including your spam. This is because programs like Outlook Express only download the messages from the Inbox on the server to your home computer.

To get to your email using the Webmail Console:
1. Type into your Internet Explorer address bar: webmail.eidnet.org OR click on the "Webmail" Menu option on the left side of this page
2. When the log in page comes up type in your username and password then click on "log in".
NOTE:Your username is the first part of your email address without the @eidnet.org
3. When the webmail console comes up, you will see the Folders list on the left hand side which includes your inbox, drafts, sent, and spam.

General Info About the Spam Filter:
The IceWarp Mail Server has a built in Spam Filter. Content spam filters use sophisticated programming rules to determine whether or not an email is likely to be spam based on the text of the message and other relevant characteristics. This approach is quite effective at minimizing spam, but it does occasionally result in the misdirection of requested email newsletters and other similar bulk messages. The messages that the filter interprets as spam are sent directly to your spam folder and are saved for 10 days, then deleted automatically (since it is assumed that at that point the message has not been missed by the recipient). Because of this, you’ll want to check your spam folder on a regular basis to make sure no errors have been made. To deal with situations such as these, the mail server allows us to “black list” and “white list” senders. Black listing designates the email address as a spammer and sends any mail from that address directly to your spam folder. White listing says that the sender is valid and allows the mail from that email address into your inbox.

If you are looking for a message that someone sent and you are sure that it was sent properly, it may have been filtered out as spam. Here are the steps you should take to check and "whitelist" that sender:

1. Log into your webmail ( see above) and Click on the spam folder.
- The messages that are designated as spam will show in the right hand upper panel.
2. If you find the message that should not be spam you should click on the Subject Line of the message.
3. Click on the button with the Green Check Mark at the right end of the button bar that lies between your messages and the preview pane.
4. Click the "OK" button to confirm White Listing. This moves the message to the inbox and allows all email from that person to now go into your inbox when received.

You can move any email from spam folder to inbox without White Listing by:
1. Selecting "move" from the first drop down selection box and Inbox from the second drop down selection box.
2. Click the Checkbox at the start of the message you want to move.
3. Click OK button.

If you are getting messages in your Inbox that you think are spam you can block the sender from sending you any more messages by blacklisting them:
1. Log into your webmail ( see above).
2. Click on the Subject Line of the message that is spam.
3. Click on the Red Arrow at the right end of the button bar that lies between your messages and the preview pane.
4. Click the "OK" button to Confirm Black Listing.
5. Any message from this sender will automatically go to the Spam Folder.

My connection doesn't seem to be working?

The radio signal may may have just 'hung'. If you have your computer plugged straight into the box that the EIDNet installed in your house, then unplug the power from this box, make sure the lights have gone off and count to 5 before plugging it back in. It will take about a minute for the radio to restart and then do a restart on your computer. If this fails to bring your connection back up then call the EIDNet for further help. If you have a router connected between the EIDNet box and your computer then this adds an additional step. First you unplug and replug the power to the EIDNet box exactly as described previously. Then you need to unplug the power from your router, making sure all the lights go off on the box. Replug it back in and make sure the lights come back on. Then restart the computer and try the internet again. If this fails to bring your connection back up then you need to try plugging directly to the EIDNet box using the same cable that currently goes from the EIDNet box to your router. Unplug this cable from the router and plug it into the computer so that you are bypassing the router. Once again, unplug the EIDNet box from the power and plug it back in. Restart the computer and check to see if your internet has connected back up. If so, then the trouble is with your router and you will need to either reprogram the router or contact a computer technician to help with its troubleshooting. If the plugging direct doesnot help getting your connection back then call the EIDNet for further help.

Is this the same as Satellite Downloads?

The simple answer is no. This is a Two-way high-speed link. Your signal originates at the EID office in Brooks and is then transmitted by radio waves thru a series of towers to your local tower. It is then picked up by the antenna at your house and is then fed through a cable into a special modem inside your house. Your computer is then plugged into this modem. Your signal out to the internet follows the same path back. In actual fact it is faster!!!

Can I drive around the county while using a laptop computer?

Unfortunately no. EIDNet is a fixed Wireless connection which is also know as Point-To-Point service. It is only wireless from our tower to your house. Your computer needs to be plugged in to receive its signal unless you have a wireless router which can be used to rebroadcst the signal within your home.

Does it use my phone lines?

EIDNet does NOT connect to your phone line at all. Your phone line is free to use at all times.

Why is there an initial cost of $300.00 ?

To keep the monthly costs down for our customers we do not lock our customers into a long term contract in order to recover the cost of the equioment and installation. EIDNet has NO hidden fees, no bandwidth charges, and no timelimits for use of the service. The $300.00 cost covers the cost of installation which includes the radio, standard mount, 60ft of cable and the labour. In some cases we will not be able to reach a house with just the standard equipment. Any additional equipment needed, such as higher masts for the antenna or extra cable beyond 60 feet may have an extra cost. The installer will survey the site and inform the owner if any additional equipment will be needed and won't continue until consent is given.

Unfortunately no. Because of the type of radio equipment being used, trained installers do need to be used.
